An Art for Sight, an Eyeful at Life

“Our eyes are the lamp of our body”- During the Journey of Sight Exhibition, visitors and the public were enlightened on the importance of eyesight through art. In conjunction of World Sight Day, Save Ones Sight Missions Berhad (SOSM) organized ‘Journey of Sight’- a 2-day art exhibition featuring assorted artworks by The One Academy Bandar Sunway and Penang students along with other local & international artisans to increase awareness on various eye conditions & diseases to the public.

The event was held at Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur with an opening speech given by SOSM Founder, Stevens Chan and Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Lam Thye, followed by the launching officiated by the minister himself. Artworks contributed by artists are put up for sale and funds received will be channeled to the Dogs for Sight campaign- also an initiative by the organizer. Part of the event also includes free eye screening and checkups for the public to help individuals to understand their eye conditions.

With the art displayed in the wide open space, many visitors who stopped were attracted by the vivid colours and expressive images of the artworks created by the aspiring and professional artisans. The artworks created by The One Academy Bandar Sunway students comprised of visual art posters designed with graphic elements and typography.

On the other hand, The One Academy Penang students’ creations consist of many expressive sculptures to define “eyes” as a gift; other sculptures portrayed eye disease from a the victim’s perspective, enabling the public to understand in depth. The One Academy students’ artworks received high number of interest from the public and the media.

Other highlights include a ‘Black Box’ concept created by famous local artist, Phillip Wong for visitors to experience Braille Art in complete darkness! The event also featured renowned international Australian photographer Andrew Follows. Follows is a visually impaired photographer who have won many awards for his exemplifying photographs.

The purpose of this event also gives students the chance to expose their artworks and showcase their talents. This is also the chance for aspiring designers and artisans to create artworks for social awareness purpose. Students will be able to learn how to produce works of art containing deep messages to convey to the public.

Besides learning to produce outstanding results, The One Academy constantly encourages out-of-classroom experiences that will enable students to understand the demands of the industry. With this, students will be equipped with readiness to take the booming creative industry by storm while they embark on a transformational journey.
